Typhoons Dante & Emong Disaster Relief

PRESS RELEASE / Varsitarian...

****THE UNIVERSITY OF SANTO TOMAS MEDICAL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION IN AMERICA (USTMAAA) THROUGH ITS FINANCIAL ARM, THE USTMAAA FOUNDATION, DONATES $10,000 TOWARDS DISASTER RELIEF *** MANILA, PHILIPPINES (JULY 23, 2025).****

In the wake of the recent typhoons, Dante and Emong, which brought severe flooding to the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, the USTMAAA Foundation has stepped forward to provide vital support to the beleaguered UST Hospital. Recognizing the urgent need for assistance amid the chaos and damage caused by these natural disasters, the USTMAAAF Board of Directors has donated $10,000 (approximately P550,000) for disaster relief. The typhoon severely impacted the UST hospital, leaving medical staff, nurses and other personnel stranded due to extreme flooding and a significant loss of electricity. The situation was compounded by difficulties obtaining food supplies for 700 people and fuel for the hospital's generators creating critical challenges for the hospital administration. This swift action from the USTMAAA underscores their unwavering commitment to supporting their alma mater, and the broader community in times of need. “Our priority has always been and will always be the well-being of our colleagues, the indigent patients, and the communities we serve”, said Doctor Stella Evangelista, Executive Director of USTMAAA Foundation. “We hope this contribution will not only provide immediate relief, but also inspire others to join these efforts to restore and stabilize the hospital's operations”.

With a generous donation from the USTMAAA, the UST hospital has been able to expedite recovery operations, enabling it to resume critical medical services. Although operations are back in track, the hospital continues to recover from this substantial impact of the Typhoons. The USTMAAA thanks its members for their support and encourages other alumni and partners to contribute to the ongoing relief efforts including repairs to damaged infrastructures and electrical connections. Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference in our support of the UST Hospital.
